Chief Executive Officer
Reporting to: Board of Trustees
Salary: Up to £80,000
Location: Camden Town, London – (80% of time in office/Camden)
Hours: Full-time (flexible working patterns considered including 4 day working week)
Key Responsibilities
The purpose of the CEO role is to deliver the vision and strategy of the Charity, working with staff, older people who use our services, commissioners, partners and trustees, in line with the core values of Age UK Camden – Kindness, Courage, Hope and Justice.
To be a passionate advocate for older people in Camden and to provide excellent leadership to staff and volunteers.
To work with the Chair and Trustees of Age UK Camden to ensure that the charity achieves its objectives to promote the rights and support the interests of older people from Camden’s diverse communities, and complies with its statutory and legal obligations.
Additionally, to support the Trustees of the subsidiaries to meet their objects, delivery plans, and compliance obligations.
The CEO will provide clarity and long term direction to Age UK Camden, and continue to develop highly effective partnerships and ensure the charity is well-run and delivers high quality services.
To have a strong focus on maximising business development and creating opportunities for growth through fundraising and income generation including attracting new income streams.
To sustain the financial viability of the organisation through the efficient and prudent management of the organisation’s resources.
To ensure that Age UK Camden manages its external relationships in a way that promotes the welfare of older people in Camden and enhances the image of the organisation.
To enable Age UK Camden to achieve its commitments to equality, diversity and inclusion in providing high quality services, advocating on behalf of older people from Camden’s diverse communities and in the employment and engagement of staff and volunteers representing the communities we serve.
Person Specification
Essential Experience
Significant senior leadership and management experience in a similar sized organisation, working with multiple stakeholders.
Knowledge of the current national and local health and social care agendas and their impact upon voluntary sector organisations and services for older people.
Knowledge and experience of ensuring organisational review of risk in areas such as safeguarding, health and safety and reputational risk.
Understanding of legal and regulatory framework affecting charities that contract with public sector for the provision of services.
Knowledge and experience of ensuring that diversity, equality and inclusion are at the forefront of all aspects of the work of an organisation.
Experience of financial management and control including budget setting and reviews with a budget in excess of £2 million.
Considerable experience of people management and knowledge of the statutory framework governing employment.
Proven track record in maintaining and building on an organisation’s external position, translating into tangible benefits for the organisation and the communities. served.
Strong track record of developing effective influencing strategies and plans including identifying key partners and building and sustaining relationships with those operating at the most senior levels of public, private and third sectors.
Proven track record of securing strategic growth and building financial sustainability through strategic planning, business development, income generation and financial management.
Explicit understanding of how to position an organisation in order to have maximum impact and influence.
Experienced in being able to identify opportunities to generate unrestricted income via a portfolio of services.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent motivational and people development skills including a high level of emotional intelligence.
Able to understand the role of the Board of Trustees and work effectively to develop and maintain high performing governance.
Ability to lead and inspire a staff team who work in a hybrid environment in line with our core values of kindness, courage, hope and justice and with a facilitative and inclusive style.
Ability to be commercially minded – able to identify opportunities for growth and translate these into tangible benefits and increased unrestricted income which can be used to benefit older people in Camden.
Ability to network with a range of audiences and organisations in order to further Age UK Camden’s standing in the borough and beyond.
Highly financially literate with the ability to think strategically, analyse complex budgets and forecasts and make decisions based on analysis.
