Director of Grants Development
Objectives: To lead Buttle UK’s strategic development, and implementation of our grantmaking, co-production and related influencing work.
Reports to: Chief Executive
Line reports: You will be a member of the Senior Management Team and line manage the Head of Grants Development and the Co-production & Accountability Manager
Responsible for: The Grants Development Team and our Co-production lead (See organogram in the role description download below)
Location: Hybrid (1 day per week) or homebased role, with an expectation of occasional travel to London (Oval)
Salary: £67,817 - £71,386 p.a.
Hours: Full Time – 35 hours per week (open to PT 28hrs)

Key responsibilities
Strategic management
Play a full role as a member of a highly productive Senior Management Team in the overall leadership and development of the organisation and potential business opportunities. Formulate and deliver organisational strategies and business plans.
Accountable for the delivery of Buttle UK’s grantmaking, developing its quality, equity, diversity and impact.
Lead on external relationships to deliver strategic objectives around grants and co-production and work with SMT to deliver wider influencing activity.
Engage with and report to the Board of Trustees and Grants Committee.
Provide strategic direction and management for the Grants Development Team, through the line management of the Head of Grants.
Be the SMT lead for the development and delivery of Buttle UK’s co-production work, including our Youth Panel and Advisory Board, ensuring we meet our organisational accountability ambitions.
Be the designated safeguarding lead for Buttle UK and lead on safeguarding activity across the charity.
Promote the forming and maintenance of strong working relationships across teams.
To hold, manage and be responsible for such budgets as may be delegated, and to approve and authorise expenditure in accordance with budgetary constraints and delegated authority.
Grants development
Line-manage the Head of Grants Development role to ensure that excellent grantmaking practices are followed, enabling them to excel in their role and foster a thriving team environment.
Responsible for leading the design of new grant programme activity for the most vulnerable groups, identifying risks and opportunities.
Build a culture within the Grants Team that challenges itself to continuously improve our offer to children and young people, delivering both equity and efficiency.
Work with the Fundraising and Marketing team to meet funder reporting needs, support the development of new proposals and negotiate complex funding agreements as needed.
Work with the Impact and Evaluation team and external partners to ensure we understand the impact of our grants and that learning and best practice is embedded in grants delivery and shared externally.
Ensure all grants activity, processes and systems meet requirements around fraud, audit, costs and UK GDPR.
Influencing with our grantmaking
To lead on the exploration, design and delivery of the grant focussed element of our influencing work, in liaison with the Director of FR&M.
Network, develop and maintain external grantmaking relationships and lead on collaborations with other grant makers or frontline organisations.
Develop and champion collaborative cross-team approaches to integrate our grant-making, co-production, and influencing efforts, ensuring a cohesive and united approach.
Champion and share learning from Buttle’s grant making for individual and organisational grant makers.
Recognise emerging UK wide and sector issues of relevance to Buttle UK, as they relate to its grant-giving work, and to take a lead on an appropriate organisational response.
Develop and maintain positive and appropriate relationships with external agencies, including government departments and the voluntary sector.
Act as a key spokesperson (eg. media/events) for the organisation when appropriate.

Qualifications
Evidence of recent and continuing development in a professional field relevant to the post’s requirements.
Experience
Evidence of success in leadership of delivery and/or design of grant-making / charitable programmes or services.
Evidence of influencing and working with partners, stakeholders and policymakers in a variety of sectors and experience in building relationships with them.
Evidence of effective individual and team management within a high achieving, outcomes-based culture.
Evidence of direct working within a child / family focussed service.
Evidence of leading safeguarding within an organisation. (Desirable)
Skills
Highly developed influencing, persuading and interpersonal skills to gain support, confidence and respect.
Highly developed leadership and people management skills.
Understanding of policy development and the ability to influence decision-making.
Expertise in designing and applying monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems to assess programme effectiveness. (Desirable)
Strong analytical, evaluative and organisational skills.
Proficient I.T. skills including, google business tools, databases and email.
Abilities
