Role description
Chief Executive
Salary: £100,000 - £115,000 (commensurate with skill set and experience)
Location: London (Hybrid) - willingness to travel within England & Wales when required
Reporting to: Chair – Premier League Charitable Fund
Direct reports: Chief Operating Officer, Head of Safeguarding and Quality Assurance, Senior Communications Manager
Purpose: The Premier League Charitable Fund Chief Executive is responsible for leading a team of 30 to deliver Board-approved strategic priorities - ensuring the organisation is operationally excellent and delivering real social impact.
Key responsibilities
Strategy Delivery and Leadership
Work collaboratively with the Board and funders to drive delivery of the organisation’s 2025–2030 strategy and related plans
Ensure Premier League Charitable Fund goals align with wider priorities (including those of funders and partners), tracking progress effectively
Lead, motivate, and develop the Premier League Charitable Fund team, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Leadership Team
Foster a positive, inclusive team culture, ensuring responsibilities are understood so individuals can perform at their best and deliver against clear objectives
Demonstrating/Growing Impact and Value for Money
Enhance ways to measure and demonstrate the impact of our programmes nationally/regionally/locally, including to report to key stakeholders e.g. Premier League, PFA, Clubs/CCOs, Government, Fans, Local Authorities, Police
Promote a culture that uses data and insight to make decisions and evaluate success, informing future funding and policy decisions, along with how work is planned and delivered
Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring accountability and the ability to show funders and the Board value for money
Work within agreed budgets and show how spending creates real impact for the people and communities we serve
Operational Excellence
Strategic oversight of the operations of the Premier League Charitable Fund, including grant-making, programme delivery, and support for CCOs
Ensure systems and processes for funding, monitoring, and evaluating projects are continually improved, ensuring efficiency, quality and consistency
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with CCOs, the Premier League, the PFA, external funders, football partners, relevant government representatives, and other key stakeholders
Represent the Premier League Charitable Fund at events, meetings, and conferences, acting as a confident ambassador for our work
Manage different stakeholder interests, ensuring a focus on our charitable mission, addressing underperformance where needed
Collaborate with the Premier League to explore potential funding and partnership opportunities where relevant
Governance, Safeguarding, and Compliance
Work openly and effectively with the Chair and the Board, providing regular updates and supporting Board and committee meetings
Ensure the Premier League Charitable Fund meets all legal and regulatory requirements, including Charity Commission rules
Uphold strong safeguarding standards, ensuring everyone involved feels and is kept safe
Identify risks and implement measures to manage or reduce them
Person specification
Experience
Demonstrable leadership experience, able to drive a collaborative, collegiate, high performing culture within the Premier League Charitable Foundation, and in alignment with the Premier League
Experience navigating and influencing within complex structures to develop and deliver shared strategies, balancing big-picture thinking whilst ensuring operational excellence.
Experience of successfully delivering social impact for beneficiaries, and evaluating it to steer future focus
Knowledge of progressive grant-making in sport and/or social impact sector
Ability to build strong relationships with a range of people, from local communities to senior leaders across both Premier League Charitable Fund and Premier League.
Experience leading teams, ability to inspire people, experience setting clear goals to ensure everyone can thrive
Skilled at managing multiple projects and priorities while staying calm under pressure
Experience working with budgets and delivering value for money for multiple stakeholders
Excellent spoken and written communication skills, suitable for presentations, reports, and media work.
Commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and adults at risk and effective safeguarding practice.
Knowledge of good governance practices and charity regulations.
An understanding of and clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, fostering a welcoming environment where peoples’ differences are valued and barriers preventing people from accessing programmes are addressed
Willingness to travel within England and Wales as and when appropriate
A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed
