Welcome

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in the role of Chair of Community Foundation Wales - this is an exciting time to be thinking of joining us!

This year we celebrate 25 years of supporting communities in every corner of Wales, during which we’ve distributed £40m to people and community groups. Last year we were able to award £2.6m in funding, to more than 500 groups and individuals, derived from income from our endowment fund (which now totals £21m), and from our provision of grant programme services across Wales.

We believe in the power of community to change people’s lives for the better; our strength lies in combining our understanding of local needs with our effective realisation of philanthropic ambitions. The past couple of years have seen significant successes on both fronts. Our strong funding partnership with Principality Building Society is helping improve the health and well-being and building the skills and talent of our future generations, while also involving their own people in the organisation’s giving.

In response to current challenges we also launched two key funds - our Nation of Sanctuary Croeso Fund and our Communities Together – Cost of Living Fund – to run alongside distributing funding from other grant schemes.

While we’re marking our anniversary with some celebrations, we’re very much looking to the future. Building on 24 years of growth, we have big plans for further development as we focus on ways to encourage more philanthropy and giving in Wales, so that we can further strengthen the support we give to local communities and charities.

We are well-placed to do this in these most testing of times, working closely with our stakeholders. These include Wales-based businesses and individuals who want to support Welsh communities, local community groups, the Welsh Government and local authorities, the third sector, and the wider Welsh diaspora.

Our next Chair will play an important role in supporting and expanding those relationships and increasing understanding of what we do. And, as we near the start of our next strategic planning cycle, this is the perfect time to join us.

We hope you enjoy learning more about us and the important work of Community Foundation Wales outlined in this pack. Ultimately, we hope that you feel we are the kind of organisation you would like to be an important part of, helping us inspire people to give, helping our wonderfully diverse communities thrive and helping change lives in Wales for the better.
